Northern Lights and the Gospel

Did you see them? When I woke up on Saturday morning, my Facebook feed was flooded with pictures of the northern lights and I missed them. I was so bummed that I had to stay off my phone all day to avoid the cruel reminder. So when I heard that we would be able to see them again on Saturday night, I was so pumped! I kept my curtains open in the living room so I could keep an eye on the skies and experience the beauty that my friends had seen the night previous.
While I waited, I painted my nails and did some reading. I'd go outside and check the skies occasionally. I picked up my phone and saw new pictures from friends. I had missed it again. Some friends had described them as something so majestic that it brought them to tears! Pictures obviously can't do the experience any justice. I was so upset but I decided to go for a long drive to see if maybe they'd put on a show one more time. But alas, they did not.
As I drove, my mind wandered and I couldn't help but draw a correlation to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Specifically, the covenants offered to all of God's children through the priesthood authority bestowed upon the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I often look at my journey from drug addict to sobriety, abused to healed, and miserable to joyful and marvel at the beauty and majesty afforded by the covenants I've made with Heavenly Father through my Savior. It is something, no matter how hard I try, I cannot adequately describe in words. No matter how often I bear my testimony and tell my story, others cannot comprehend the blessings without experiencing it for themselves.
The joy of covenant living doesn't come from distractedly sitting with our curtains open, occasionally viewing the pieces of the gospel made available at church on Sundays. No, we need to center our focus on our covenants and make that our main priority. Fixing our gaze on our covenant relationship with Heavenly Father will open the doors for divine help to flow into our lives, blessing all the pieces, and fortifying our efforts.
God is so good! Don't miss out on the most magnificent blessings the Lord is able, willing, and hoping to bestow upon you. Find out for yourself how it feels to have joy magnified in your life.
